Location. The Monticello Inn in San Francisco, Calif., was architecturally inspired by Thomas Jefferson's Virginia home. This California boutique hotel occupies a 1906 building located two blocks from Union Square and one half mile from the Moscone Convention Center. The Powell Street Cable Car Line runs one block from the hotel, and ACT and Curran theaters are just two blocks away. Three blocks away, a local TIX booth sells half price day of performance tickets to theatrical performances.
Hotel Features. The hotel's expansive lobby features a lounge area with a fireplace, blue velvet sofas and paintings of early American figures. A lively Italian American trattoria is attached to the hotel and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Menu options include pastas, pizzas, panini and risotto du jour. Complimentary morning Town Car service to the Financial District is available on weekdays. The hotel offers a high speed Internet station in the library, and complimentary wireless Internet access is available in public areas.
Guestrooms. The five story hotel features 91 distinctively designed guestrooms that include desks, colonial patterned slipper chairs, minibars and refrigerators. Guestrooms offer complimentary Internet access and multi line telephones.
Expert Tip. A dynamic supporter of the arts, the Monticello Inn hosts a weekly literary salon, where local authors perform readings during hosted evening wine receptions. These events feature a variety of genres including travel writing, short stories, nature writing and memoirs.
